The name Baldivis comes from three ships, all built in the same year at the same shipyard and arriving in Western Australia in 1922 within weeks of each other. The settlers on board combined the ships’ names – Balranald, Diogenes and Jervis Bay – to create “Baldivis”, their new home thanks to the 1920s Group Settlement Scheme.
The same exciting promise, and fantastic location, continues to attract residents to this day.
Baldivis is now home to over 50,000 people and continues to have major infrastructure and development undertaken to cater to the needs of these existing residents and the many keen to join them.
New initiatives and the many amenities and lifestyle choices offered in this suburb offer plenty for all to enjoy.
School’s In! #
The ever-growing pocket of Baldivis is the ideal place to raise a family, which is evident in the youthful vibe echoing through the well-kept streets and contemporary homes, and the palpable energy of people enjoying amenities and heading to the area’s stunning beaches.
Several new residential estates, including Parcel Property’s Brightwood, have filled fast so it makes sense that there are a huge number of schools available in the area, with even more set to open in the near future.
Primary schools include the Baldivis Primary School, Baldivis Gardens Primary School, Makybe Rise Primary School, Tuart Rise Primary School, Settlers Primary School, Rivergums Primary School, Pine View Primary School, and John Calvin Primary School.
Accommodating students through to Year 12 are Tranby College, Mother Teresa Catholic College, Ridge View Secondary College, Baldivis Secondary College, Living Waters Lutheran College, and The King’s College.
For those seeking tertiary education, both the local Murdoch University Rockingham campus and the main Murdoch University campus are not far from Baldivis. The South Metropolitan TAFE Rockingham campus is minutes from the Rockingham Train Station and offers over 300 qualifications and courses.
It’s Time to Play! #
The Rockingham City Council has been reviewing planning documents that include shaping the Baldivis area, which is designated as a “growth area” by the Western Australian Planning Commission. As such, there has been active championing for increased availability of recreation spaces and local sports facilities.
One of the resulting initiatives to date is the Baldivis Sports Complex. The construction of this site started in March 2020 and was officially opened in December 2025. The complex covers nearly 20 hectares and is designed to accommodate the growth of at least 20 new sporting clubs and district-level sports.

There are plenty of other opportunities to get active and have fun in and around Baldivis.
There are over 80 parks and green spaces across the suburb, and it is easy to get to the gorgeous Waikiki Beach and adjoining beaches. Kids can also experience nature in the Baldivis Children’s Forest where they can learn about local fauna on an educational bushwalk. The Perth Aqua Park with an inflatable obstacle course is perfect for hot days, as is the Perth Wake Park which is WA’s only cable wakeboarding park.
Locals, particularly those living in Brightwood Estate, love the Brightwood Adventure Park offering a flying fox, slides, climbing and outdoor fitness equipment and BBQ and park areas to socialise in.
Those with different hobbies and skills will soon be able to share them in the purpose-built Baldivis Men’s Shed which is opening soon.
Coming and Going to and from Baldivis #
With so much to see and do in Baldivis, there really isn’t much reason to leave it! However, the broader region and state centres can easily be reached through a network of major roads and public transport services.
Baldivis is served by the Kwinana Freeway, which connects Perth and Bunbury and is connected to the western suburbs of Rockingham and Warnbro by Safety Bay Road.
If cycling is your thing, bicycle access to Perth is provided by the Kwinana Freeway’s main shared route, and it’s only a 10-minute cycle to the Wellard Train Station. The Baldivis Shopping Centre is a 17-minute cycle away and it will take 30 minutes to get to Rockingham Centre (although you might want to drive given all you can buy in these retail hubs).
The Wellard, Warnbro and Rockingham Train Stations are all close by and are serviced by local bus routes, so using public transport is super easy and a convenient way to travel.
