Located in the City of Rockingham, Brightwood is only a stone’s throw from 37 pristine kilometres of coastline, meaning you are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches to enjoy. To help you plan and make the most of your summer days out, we’ve put together a list of our favourite sandy spots plus the essentials you’ll need to have the best beach outing.

First, pick up the essentials
Aussies love the beach and after having spent a lifetime chasing the sun, have been inspired to create quality beach gear to make your day at the seaside the best it can be so why not keep it local and stock up on some Australian designed and made beach essentials?

Sunday Supply Co
This Byron Bay team create quality, bold and aesthetic beach essentials inspired by the unique landscape around them. Their range of beach umbrellas are a must have to keep you shaded from our harsh Aussie sun, so you can enjoy longer days at the beaches near Brightwood.

We Are Feel Good Inc
Born out of necessity, this Dunsborough based brand was created by six adventure lovers who found themselves seeking out a sunscreen that they could ‘feel good’ about. We Are Feel Good Inc was launched after years of researching, developing and testing to ensure it was the best sunscreen around, both for you and the environment. Australian made; this product won’t leave you with that sticky post-sunscreen feel so be sure to grab a bottle to pack for your beach day out.

Knotty Australia
This popular Aussie brand is the result of two Melbourne mums, both with squad swimming children, who struck up a friendship poolside. They discussed the necessity of towels in their household and decided to create their own premium Turkish Towel brand. Finer and quicker drying than traditional beach towels, Knotty’s bright range are lightweight and versatile so they’re the perfect accompaniment to your next beach day.

Once you’ve got everything you need, it’s time to find your spot! Brightwood is to close to a premier stretch of coastline and these are our favourite picks for beaches…

Rockingham Beach
The crystal clear and calm waters of this popular north facing beach is tucked into the south of Point Peron so it’s well protected making it ideal for families. Being the main beach for the City of Rockingham, the foreshore along the beach is well developed with a number of facilities including playgrounds and picnic tables. Certain sections of the beach are dog friendly so the whole family can enjoy, and you might even catch some horses strolling in the shallows which makes you feel like you are worlds away.

Safety Bay Beach
Just under 20 minutes away from Brightwood, Safety Bay Beach is positioned at the northern end of Warnbro Sound. With views spanning across the wide-open ocean, it is an especially picturesque section of the coastline. As the name suggests, the bay is home to relatively shallow waters and a long line of reefs shield it from ocean waves, making it very family friendly. Nearby to some great children’s playgrounds, it’s a wonderful day trip for the whole family.

Secret Harbour Beach
The wide beach with good swimming and surfing conditions is home to a Surf Lifesaving Club so there are toilet and shower facilities as well as a patrolled flag area so you can relax and unwind knowing you are swimming in safety. Backed by sand dunes and a coastal reserve area, it’s a very scenic spot to laze under your umbrella for hours. With deeper waters than some of the surrounding beaches, it is also a popular spot for fishing.
